Sydney Sweeney is undergoing quite the transformation for her next film role. The 27-year-old is set to star in a still-untitled biographical sports drama about boxer Christy Martin, and it's clear she's already physically embodying the role.
After images surfaced online this week, Sweeney shared the photos herself in an Instagram post on Wednesday, sporting a mousey brunette wig and muscle shirt with the gun show on full display.
"Well the cat's out of the bag thanks to some paps in bushes, so here’s a little [behind-the-scenes] from my film I'm working on right now," she captioned the post. "Over the past few months, I’ve been immersed in training to bring to life the story of an incredible woman—a true champion who fought battles both inside and outside the ring. Her journey is a testament to resilience, strength, and hope, and I’m honored to step into her shoes to share her powerful story with you all."
Martin is widely believed to be the most successful and prominent female boxer in the United States, and is also credited with legitimizing women’s participation in the sport. The film, which is being directed by War Machine director David Michôd, is said to chronicle Martin's rise to fame in the 1990s; and later, her attempted murder by her boxing coach-turned-husband, Jim Martin, whom she married in 1991. Martin eventually married her former boxing rival Lisa Holewyne in 2017.
The film, which began shooting in North Carolina late last month, also stars Ben Foster, Merritt Wever, Katy O'Brian,and Ethan Embry.
